3D Noodles International AB (Stockholm, Sweden), launched by Biteam AB, inaugurated four different types of carbon fiber 3D noodle or gusset filler dry preforms with pre-defined radii at JEC World 2022. A high point of attraction for using them, according to the company, is that these dry 3D noodle preforms are ready to implement and are designed to fit well in the cavity that gets inevitably formed in constructions involving a web-flange junction; this occurrence is caused by oppositely curving sheets of fabrics/prepregs.
Four different types of carbon fiber 3D noodles, covering the entire spectrum of application needs, are offered, from options that can be incorporated straight, to those that are required to curve, either in-plane (left-right) or out-of-plane (up-down), as well as noodles that enable formation of a desired radius.
3D Noodles International contends these preforms are well-suited for aerospace because they increase productivity and consistency in high-quality structures. These 3D noodle preforms fit properly in the cavity, ensuring that unnecessary accumulation of matrix material does not occur while also strengthening the most critical load-transferring web-flange junction, thereby increasing the reliability of the structure, the company notes.
3D Noodles International AB will be introducing these novel, ready-to-implement carbon fiber 3D noodle dry preforms to the U.S. market during SAMPE 2022.
