C.R. Onsrud (Troutman, N.C., U.S.) prides itself on producing well-engineered, durably built CNC machinery, including the Q-Series five-axis CNC, which was voted #1 Coolest Thing Made in North Carolina in a contest organized by the NC Chamber of Commerce in 2024.
Used for high-speed cutting, drilling, milling and sawing of composites — such as carbon fiber, foam, thermoformed plastic, honeycomb, fiberglass and more — C.R. Onsrud’s industrial CNC Q-Series serves a wide range of industries, including aerospace, transportation, defense, marine and pattern shops. Its large work volume is ideal for machining molds, prototypes and intricate, complex parts.
The Q-Series features a 5′ × 12′ table size, a 40″ Z-Stroke, 18-33 hp (20,000+ rmp) spindle and has a 12+ tool capacity. With its five-axis and CNC capability, material is secured to the Q-Series’ table, and then the machine can process every side of the workpiece quickly, consistently and accurately.
The machine’s full enclosure contains debris and isolates the operator from the machining zone and airborne particles, creating a safe and clean working environment. It offers the flexibility to accommodate oversized parts as the side panels can be removed. It also has an optional center partition that pivots from the wall, splitting the work area in half. This enables an operator to safely load and unload materials in one half while the machine continues processing material in the other.
Using intuitive controls, manufacturers create everyday items, such as plastic chairs, to the not-so-everyday items, such as a Porsche 917k prototype, and Statue of Liberty replica, carved from precision board HDU foam. Ultimately, says C.R. Onsrud, the Q-Series’ heavy-duty, FEA-engineered steel construction ensures durability, consistent reliability and long-term dependability.
C.R. Onsrud partners with customers to understand business goals and then tailors a solution that meets the specific challenges being faced.
