Refitech (Waalwijk, Netherlands) will exhibit its carbon fiber guide dog handle, finalist for the JEC 2019 Innovation Award, at the Holland Pavilion, Booth E80 in Hall 5. The guide dog harness and handle will also be on display at the Sports & LifeStyle Innovation Planet.
The displayed carbon fiber guide dog handle, produced by Refitech Carbon Components for the Royal Dutch Guide Dog Foundation (KNGF), has been picked as one of the finalists in the “Sports & Healthcare” Category for a JEC 2019 Innovation Award. The handle, that is said to weigh more than 50% less than the previous metal version, is designed to improve comfort for both the guide dog and the owner. The winner of the award category will be announced during the Awards Ceremony at the show.
Refitech’s lightweight carbon fiber handle is part of a new guide dog harness, specially developed for KNGF. The design incorporates several features inspired by motor sports and kite surfing equipment. Once mounted on the harness, the carbon fiber handle is said to “float” above the dog’s back in midair, making it easier to locate for the owner. The stiffness of the design is also meant to improve signaling directions between the owner and the dog.
Originally designed for the Dutch market, the harness has reportedly also attracted interest from official dog training associations around the world. Refitech is looking for potential partners worldwide to market the guide dog harness and handle locally.
