Composite Alliance Corp. (CAC, Dallas, Texas, U.S.) is a global tooling, machinery and service supplier offering a wide selection of standard and custom solutions in support of composite part design and fabrication. The company’s goal is to advise, equip and assist its customers in using cost-effective advanced manufacturing processes to maximize performance and to widen the applications of composites. CAC believes in fostering close collaboration between field experts, research centers and manufacturers in the aerospace and defense, automotive and energy sectors.
Composite materials are widely used in a number of industrial sectors, CAC notes, and there are numerous methods for fabricating composite parts. Many of them were developed to meet specific design or manufacturing challenges. Therefore, the selection of the right method for a particular part depends on the materials, the part design and end-use or application.
Composite fabrication processes involve some form of molding, to shape and consolidate the resin and fiber reinforcement. A mold is required to give the unformed resin/fiber combination its shape prior to and during cure. CAC says its personnel has extensive experience in various molding technologies, even going as far as developing new processes for greater efficiency and performance. Its capabilities range from engineering consulting, design, analysis and first article development to manufacturing, industrialization and product support.
CAC has experience in the following technologies and processes: resin transfer molding (RTM) and vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM); infusion; final pressure transfer molding (FPTM); thermoplastics; prepregs; and 2D and 3D conventional or complex preforms, to name a few.
