Composites One (Arlington Heights, Ill., U.S.), in partnership with the Closed Mold Alliance and IACMI – The Composites Institute (Knoxville, Tenn., U.S.) are presenting an advanced composites workshop in Clearfield, Utah, U.S. on Nov. 6. Called “Fly Away with Composites,” the free one-day event for manufacturers, business owners, technicians and engineers will spotlight the latest innovations in tooling, processes and materials being used in aerospace, consumer recreation and other markets.

To be held Nov. 6 just outside Salt Lake City at Davis Technical College Freeport West Campus in Clearfield, “Fly Away with Composites” is the latest in a series of educational events presented by Composites One, the Closed Mold Alliance and IACMI. It is expected to feature engaging presentations and live demos led by industry experts on thermoplastics, 3D printing, epoxy sheet molding (SMC) and bulk molding compounds (BMC), and using vacuum infusion processing (VIP) to build aerospace components.

For those involved in tooling, the workshop offers sessions on machinable media, low-temperature prepreg tooling and infused carbon fiber tooling for high-temperature applications. For business owners, there will be sessions focused on workforce development and using automation to improve efficiency. Reinforcing workforce initiatives will be keynote speaker Ginger Chinn, managing director of business services at Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED). There also is a track geared to high school students and their parents.

“Fly Away with Composites” will take place during Utah Advanced Manufacturing Week, which is Nov. 4-8, 2019. This week is an official recognition and gathering of the Utah advanced materials and manufacturing industry in Utah.
