Zoltek’s Hungarian plant to add carbon fiber production capacity
Zoltek Corp. (St. Louis, MO, US) has worked out a deal with the Hungarian government to expand capacity.
In the wake of its recent buyout by Toray Industries (Tokyo, Japan), industrial-grade carbon fiber manu- facturer Zoltek Corp. (St. Louis, MO, US) has worked out a deal with the Hungarian government to expand capacity by an unspecified quantity at Zoltek’s plant in Nyergesújfalu, Hungary. Zoltek reports that the plant is already the largest carbon fiber factory in the world and manu- factures materials for use in the wind energy, aerospace and auto- motive industries. The expansion is expected to create 100 new jobs immediately and another 200-300 over the next few years. In addition to the cooperation agreement, Zoltek also has signed an agree- ment with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics to help educate the next generation of carbon fiber professionals.
