Mixing and blending technology company Ross Mixers (Hauppauge, N.Y., U.S.) has completed a custom coaxial mixer that effectively blends, disperses and homogenizes materials through a concentric-shaft configuration. This system combines two synergistic agitation technologies, making it suitable for a wide range of rheologies and flow patterns in industries such as adhesives, sealants, coatings, composites, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

The agitation system features two independently driven components: a heavy-duty, two-wing anchor with a triangular cross-section and a pitched-blade propeller assembly. Each agitator is powered by a 15-hp explosion-proof motor. The outer agitator reaches speeds up to 25 rpm, while the inner shaft turns the propellers at up to 191 rpm. A Nema 12 control panel includes two 15-hp VFDs with an Ethernet/IP option for local or remote control of each agitator. The panel also features displays for speed, amperage and percent load, along with an Emergency Stop button and necessary safety disconnects.

This custom-built mixer offers a 1,100-gallon working capacity and is engineered for full vacuum operation to 29.5"Hg and internal pressure up to 15 psig at 300°F. The fixed cover includes multiple access ports, including a hinged manway with a safety limit switch. Product temperature is managed through heating/cooling media passing through a two-zone stainless steel half-pipe jacket on the sidewalls and bottom, ASME stamped for 100 psig at 300°F. A 4" pneumatic flush tank ball valve supports a smooth discharge process.
