CAMX 2023, taking place Oct. 30 – Nov. 2 at the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) in Atlanta, Ga., U.S., is presenting “Good Day, CAMX” on Nov. 1 at 8 a.m., an interactive session on the evolving composites industry landscape.

This year, Marcy Offner, director of marketing and communications at Composites One (Schaumburg, Ill., U.S.) is flipping the script and will “interview the interviewer,” asking ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ (CW) brand VP Jeff Sloan about his perspective on the state of the industry and potential for the future.

Prior to his current role, Jeff Sloan served as editor-in-chief of CW for 17 years, where he led the brand’s coverage of all things composites manufacturing and brings a unique perspective from reporting on the industry’s leading materials, processes and applications of composites technology.

The session will include a discussion of the current state of the industry, challenges going forward and lessons learned, sustainability, workforce challenges and development, automation and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring their hardest-hitting questions for a Q&A session following the presentation.

According to Sloan, one of the most important topics in the composites industry right now is the need for more industrialization, and he looks forward to discussing more with Offner and CAMX attendees.

“As emerging markets like urban air mobility and hydrogen storage ramp up, and markets like commercial aerospace adopt composites for more and larger structures, legacy, labor-intensive processes will need to be replaced by higher volume manufacturing methods,” Sloan says. “At the same time, sustainability and end of life has to be a part of the conversation. There are a lot of challenges facing the industry but also a lot of opportunities for the growth of composites.”
