SHD Composite Materials Inc. FR308, for example, is a bio-derived resin system supporting aerospace and mass transit interior markets. It meets flame, smoke and toxicity (FST) requirements of aerospace standard CS 25.853 and rail standard EN 45545 HL3. FR308 offers high resistance to flammability and extreme heat environments and can be supplied on a variety of fabrics to meet specific cost and manufacturing requirements. The resin system has no hazardous chemicals, is formaldehyde- and phenol-free and has no organic solvents used in the manufacturing process. According to SHD, FR308 is capable of significantly reducing carbon footprint compared to phenolic prepregs and is already being adopted widely across industry.
Another product highlight includes MTC400-1, a highly versatile epoxy prepreg system suitable for structural applications in aerospace, space and high-level motorsport. With enhanced toughness, it can be supplied on a variety of reinforcements, including carbon, fiberglass and Kevlar, and in UD formats. MTC400-1 also provides additional processing flexibility being suitable for autoclave, out-of-autoclave and press cure, and offers service temperatures up to 390°F after post-cure.
