Michelman (Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.; Hall 5, Booth G73) is showcasing its expanding portfolio of water-based fiber sizing solutions, including the Hydrosize product line. Hydrosize enables customers to tailor the surface chemistry of reinforcement fibers to the chemistry of the matrix resin, optimizing the interface adhesion between the polymers and fibers and producing stronger, lighter and more durable composite parts.
In addition, the company offers a diverse selection of sizing solutions optimized for both thermoplastic and thermoset resins, including high-temperature matrices. The company’s fiber sizing can be applied during the manufacturing process of chopped or continuous strand fiberglass, carbon fiber, natural fibers and fillers, or post-applied when making nonwovens and composite prepregs.
Specifically, Michelman says that its Hydrosize Carbon, part of the Hydrosize product family, enables customers to leverage carbon fiber’s unique benefits. This series of grades offers a variety of solutions depending on resin compatibility, fiber type and desired composite performance.
During JEC’s technical conference, Gilles LeMoigne, Regional Marketing Manager, EMEA, is presenting the “Effect of Sizing on the Interfacial and Mechanical Properties of Carbon Fiber (CF) Reinforced Polyamide (PA6,6) Composites.”
