(Denver, Colo., U.S.) announces the launch of Vitrimax, a mechanically robust platform chemistry of reprocessable thermoset resins. Designed for use in prepregs, pultrusion and unidirectional (UD) tapes (RTM is under development), Vitrimax reportedly enables processing and reprocessing capabilities for thermoset composite applications.
According to Mallinda, products made with Vitrimax can be reprocessed (reshaped, welded, compression formed) above a range of user-desired and tunable glass transition temperatures (Tg) between 20°C-200°C. Prepreg materials can be processed conventionally as B-staged laminates or can be pre-cured for thermoplastic-like processing, enabling indefinite shelf stability under ambient conditions. In addition, Mallinda says Vitrimax is a sustainable material for polymeric and composites applications across industry segments. The company claims that Vitrimax is the first of many new solutions aimed at diverting resin and highly valuable fiber reinforcement out of landfills and into new products, with no loss in structural integrity or mechanical performance.
The broad commercial launch of Vitrimax takes place in March of 2022, with an EU launch to follow soon after.
