(Mérignac, France), a startup specializing in carbon fiber reclamation, and international shipbuilding group (Normandie, France), have signed a strategic partnership to reduce the environmental footprint of luxury yacht construction through the integration of high-performance recycled carbon fiber (rCF).
Created in 2003, Grand Large Yachting’s mission is to enable everyone, seasoned sailors or not, to fulfill their dream of small- or long-distance sailing journeys with low environmental impact. Grand Large Yachting embodies nautical excellence through six brands: Gunboat, Outremer, ORC, Garcia, Allure and RM.
Aware of the environmental impact of its materials, the Grand Large Yachting team is taking a proactive approach by gradually replacing a portion of virgin carbon fiber with rCF, using the technology developed by Nova Carbon.
Nova Carbon rCF.
For its part, Nova Carbon develops and produces the Nova Carbon product, a high-performance rCF based on the realignment of fibers collected from industrial partners. The reclaimed material, providing the high technical performance of virgin fiber with a reduced environmental footprint, offers a sustainable and competitive alternative for the marine industry.
As part of this partnership, the two companies have agreed on several key commitments:
- Circular collection and valorization: Grand Large Yachting will provide Nova Carbon’s carbon fiber waste, following the conditions and recommendations set by the startup, to ensure its recyclability and quality.
- Integration of recycled fibers: Grand Large Yachting aims to explore and develop solutions to reintegrate the Nova Carbon from its own waste into its manufacturing processes.
The approach is based on a constant pursuit of quality and traceability, through rigorous processes and certified materials.
This initiative could also be gradually extended to Grand Large Yachting’s subcontractors, amplifying its positive impact across the entire industry supply chain. The goal is to increase the use of high-performance rCF in the group’s projects.
