News website reports that Apple Computer has installed a massive carbon fiber roof on the Apple Theatre at its new headquarters, under construction in Cupertino, CA, US.

According to the report, the 120,000-ft², 1,000-seat subterranean theater — designed for product introductions and other company events — will feature an above-ground, glass-walled, cylindrical lobby. Resting on the glass walls is the 80-ton roof, featuring 44 pie-shaped carbon fiber panels, each radiating spoke-like from the center of the roof structure. Each panel is 21.3m long and 3.6m wide at the widest point. 

Mashable says the panels were fabricated by Premier Composite Technologies (Dubai, UAE), which has a history of making large composite architectural structures. The roof, says the report, was assembled and tested in Dubai, and then disassembled for shipment to California. Apple told Mashable that the roof is the largest free-standing carbon fiber structure of its kind in the world.

Apple's Campus 2 facility will be the company's new global headquarters and is expected to be completed by early 2017. Click for the original Mashable report.
