ICOMAT opens first production facility, Factory 1
Two-phase opening in Gloucester, U.K., builds on iCOMAT’s comprehensive composites engineering service offerings for aerospace and automotive.

Advanced composite structures developer iCOMAT (Bristol, U.K.) has opened its first production facility, Factory 1, located in Gloucester. This 45,000-square-foot facility is delivered in two phases.
Phase 1 is now complete, enabling end-to-end production of composite component sizes up to 6 × 3 meters. The factory includes a Class 7 clean room, assembly room, coordinate measuring machine (CCM), autoclaves, a five-axis CNC and spraybake. Additionally, the facility is equipped with full kit cutting and laser projection capabilities for template location.

Phase 2 will expand production capabilities further, including pressing, hot drape forming and will also see the introduction of multiple rapid tow shearing (RTS) tape laying lines. RTS is iCOMAT’s signature technology for producing defect-free fiber steered parts (read CW’s article triage on the subject here).
