In partnership with the Closed Mold Alliance and Composites One (Arlington Heights, Ill., U.S.), the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI; Knoxville, Tenn., U.S.) will present a training workshop called “By Air, By Land, By Sea: Composites Get You There” on June 11-12 in Plainview, New York, at the Composite Prototyping Center (CPC). 

This composite training workshop is provided at no cost to participants as an opportunity for New York and surrounding-area companies to learn about composite manufacturing materials and processes that are utilized in wind energy, marine and aviation industries through hands-on demonstrations and presentations from industry leaders.

The workshop features demonstrations such as light resin transfer molding process (LRTM) led by RTM North (Vonastra, Calif., U.S.) and Chomarat (Le Cheyard, France) with support by Composites One and Magnum Venus Products (Knoxville, Tenn., U.S.), as well as a marine hard top infusion from Composites One and Chomarat. Additional highlights include Derek Berry, IACMI wind technology director and senior engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)’s National Wind Technology Center (NWTC), who will overview the deployment of offshore wind power in the U.S.; and both Dassault Systèmes (Waltham, Mass., U.S.) and Thermwood (Dale, Ind., U.S.), who will present software systems for additive manufacturing equipment. 

“Composites Get You There” is the 14th workshop in the series hosted by IACMI and Composites One since its inception in 2016. More than 2,000 composites workers across the United States have participated in these workshops. This is the first workshop at the Composite Prototyping Center, opening a new geographic location for composite technician training.
