A free webinar, sponsored jointly by the  (CSCM) and (IMCAS), is discussing recent advances in the mechanical properties of double-double (DD) laminates. It is jointly organized by Professor Stephen Tsai from Stanford Univeristy and Professor Cheng Qiu of IMCAS, and takes place April 14, 2025, from 13:30 – 17:30 p.m. Beijing time (1:30 – 5:30 a.m. ET, 10:30 p.m. – 2:30 a.m. PT).

DD composites, a new family of composites, are reported to exhibit high homogeneity, optimal design and manufacturing simplification, and improved weight and cost savings compared to quad laminates, positioning them as alternatives in composites engineering.

Webinar schedule.

For example, traditional quad laminates are designed using four discrete angles 0°/90°/45°/-45° with arbitrary stacking sequences. On the other hand, DD laminates, first proposed by Tsai in 2017, use two continuous angles but have fixed sequences of [±φ/±φ].

, speakers will cover the most recent breakthroughs in DD laminates, emphasizing their unique mechanical performance, and will provide opportunities to share thoughts about how DD laminates might revolutionize the industry.

The webinar is targeted for researchers or engineers of composite structures.

Speakers will include:

  • Professor Jingiei Yang, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
  • Professor Jialong Liu, Sun Yari-Sen University
  • Professor Jie Zhi, Tongi University
  • Professor Zhengping Chang, Northwester Polytechnical University
  • Professor Xiaoyang Liu, Qingdao University of Technology
  • Professor Fangliang Guo, Chongqing University
  • Dr. Yizhou Huang, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
  • De. Chengguang Liu, Sinoma Wind Power Blade Co. Ltd.
