ACMA calls for participation in crossarms standards-related groups
Interested individuals may participate on the Crossarms Relevant Committee as well as the Consensus Body for development of a new standard addressing key attributes, use of fiberglass crossarm materials.
Source | The American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA)
The American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA, Arlington, Va., U.S.) an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited Standards Development Organization (SDO), is seeking interested individuals to participate on the Crossarms Relevant Committee to develop the new standard as well as the Consensus Body that will vote on the final draft of “Specification for Fiberglass Composite Crossarms for Distribution Utility Structures.”
The new standard will address key attributes of fiberglass crossarm materials (such as performance criteria, quality control and field support), and best practices of modern fiberglass composite crossarms for use by fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) manufacturers, electrical utility engineers and specifiers as well as electrical utility distributors.
Membership in ACMA is not required to participate as a member of the Relevant Committee or Consensus Body. Relevant Committee members are responsible for completing a draft standard, responding to comments from public commenters while Consensus Body members are responsible for reviewing and voting on the final draft for approval to be published as an ANSI standard.
Consensus Body members may represent one of the following interest categories:
Academia: An individual designated to the Academia category are those who represent the interest of and are employed by a college, university or other academic institution that may have indirect or direct knowledge on FRP composites.
Consultant: An individual designated to the Consultant category are those who agree to provide professional service in exchange for compensation, financial or otherwise and represent the interest of and are employed by a company or corporation in connection with the standards activity that may have indirect or direct knowledge on FRP composites.
General Interest: An individual designated to the General Interest category are those who represent the interest of and are employed by a company or corporation whose business or other interests are not covered by another discretely defined Interest Category. A company or corporation that does not produce FRP composites, purchases or specify these materials for use but has direct and material interest in FRP composites.
Government/Regulatory: An individual designated to the Government category are those who represent the interest of and are employed by the government (federal, state or other regional regulatory body) that may have indirect or direct knowledge on FRP composites.
Manufacturer/Molder/Producer: An individual designated to the Manufacturer/Molder/Producer category are those who represent the interest of and are employed by a company or corporation that may have indirect or direct knowledge on these materials.
Material/Equipment Supplier/Distributor: An individual designated to the Material/Equipment Supplier/Distributor category are those who represent the interest of and are employed by a company or corporation engaged in the manufacture of materials, supplies or equipment to the composites industry.
User: An individual designated to the User category are those who represent the interest of and are employed by a company or corporation who designs, specifies, engineers, purchases or otherwise use a composites product.
ACMA leadership, along with the Relevant Committee Chair, will determine the number of Consensus Body members with consideration to the number of applications received, balanced with the need to assure the group can work effectively and efficiently. Alternate member non-voting participation will be considered.
To participate as a member of Crossarms Relevant Committee or Consensus Body, please complete ACMA’s . Questions may be directed to Standards@ACMAnet.org.
