Apache Aerospace highlights MX-5 self-feed countersink tool
Third-generation design approved by U.S. aerospace manufacturers targets simplified operations for metal and composite materials cutting.

(Mukilteo, Wash., U.S.) provides complete tool management and inventory control solutions for the aerospace industry. The company recently introduced the MX-5 precise, self-feeding countersink system design developed for cutting carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP), fiberglass and aluminum materials.
The MX-5 is a process-specific tool capable of adjusting diameters in predrilled metallic or composite materials. Its cutting tools are made from special grades of carbide to provide optimized tool life. A pneumatic clamping and feed rate system enables repeatable control of high-tolerance depth countersink cuts. The machine’s graduation indicates lock detents and allows depth to be adjusted in increments of 0.0005". The system weights only 4.8 Ibs, works on shop air supply of 80-120 psi and has been designed to work easily in any workplace.
According to the company, this third-generation system offers a host of features that make it easier for operators to use. For example, tool setup prior to performing countersink operations, as well as the adjustment of cutting tool depth, feed rate and complete tool assembly have been simplified. MX-5 also ensures operators can easily measure countersink depth and adjust required specs.
