GKN Aerospace (Redditch, U.K.) has been selected as a key supplier on the new Gulfstream G700 business jet, which was unveiled at the 2019 NBAA Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition on Oct. 21.
GKN Aerospace will use its design and manufacturing experience for the aircraft’s empennages and other thermoplastic composite components. The empennage’s rudder and elevators, as well as the aircraft’s floorboards, feature thermoplastic composite technology, GKN Aerospace says. The company also produces the aircraft’s bonded fuselage panels.
This agreement is a continuation of the long-term business relationship between Gulfstream (Savannah, Ga., U.S.) and GKN Aerospace. A team of GKN Aerospace engineers will collaborate with the Gulfstream team on the design process. Production facilities are located in Hoogeveen and Papendrecht in the Netherlands.
GKN Aerospace’s Fokker business began participating in Gulfstream’s successful business jet programs in 1993. GKN Aerospace’s market-leading position in business jet empennages has been proven in the design and manufacture of empennages for many Gulfstream large and ultra-large cabin aircraft, as well as for business jets of Cessna, Dassault and HondaJet.
“We are proud to be selected again as a key supplier on Gulfstream’s latest flagship. Our partnership of more than 25 years in all Gulfstream’s business jets is extremely valuable and has led to many breakthroughs in lightweight composite technology. We truly feel part of the Gulfstream family,” says John Pritchard, GKN Aerospace’s CEO for Aerostructures and Systems Europe and Asia.
