AeroLas explores new spinning technology for thermoplastic hybrid yarn
AeroLas is working to combine recycled carbon fiber with PEEK using adapted art textile machines and a patented air guided ring spinning technology.
AeroLas (Munich, Germany) is working to develop a new spinning technology for creating thermoplastic hybrid yarn. The process combines recycled carbon fiber with PEEK using adapted art textile machines and a patented air guided ring spinning technology.
According to AeroLas, the resulting thermoplastic hybrid yarns can be used for all fiber manufacturing technologies including weaving, braiding, filament winding and pultruding. The company hopes to position the new hybrid yarn as an alternative to virgin fibers with low loss of performance, ultimately contributing to a reduction in the cost of CFRP.
AeroLas plans to conduct prototype testing during 2019.
