(Istanbul, Turkey) has developed Akperox ST-CL200, an initiator solution that combines optimal performance, environmental responsibility and user safety.
Initiators used in composite material production are fundamental components that directly affect the success of polymerization processes, the efficiency of production time and the quality of the final product. Particularly in systems that operate via radical polymerization, the choice of initiator plays a critical role in the curing rate, structural homogeneity, material durability and chemical resistance. However, phthalates and harmful solvents traditionally used in these processes are increasingly questioned due to their negative impact on the environment and human health. In addition, these chemicals’ production, use and disposal processes pose a significant environmental burden.
In this context, Akperox ST-CL200, developed in line with the principle of sustainability, is an environmentally friendly benzoyl peroxide paste that contains 8-9% dibenzoyl peroxide and is free of phthalates and solvents. With its translucent, non-sagging structure and optimal resistance to yellowing, this product protects user health while enabling high-performance production processes. According to AKPA, its product is a reliable alternative for composites manufacturers and increasingly environmentally conscious end-users.
Dibenzoyl peroxide is an effective organic peroxide widely used to initiate polymerization via free radical generation, particularly in acrylate- and methacrylate-based systems. Thanks to its controlled and balanced radical generation, Akperox ST-CL200 enhances the stability of the polymerization process, optimizes curing time and ensures the formation of a homogeneous structure in the final product. As a result, the mechanical strength, impact resistance, chemical durability and ultraviolet (UV) resistance of composite products are reported to be significantly improved.
Akperox ST-CL200, which is preferred as an adhesive in natural or artificial stone applications with light or white coloring, maintains its aesthetic appearance for extended periods due to its high resistance to yellowing. It also preserves color stability even under UV exposure in outdoor applications. Moreover, it can be effectively used as an acrylic adhesive for bonding surfaces such as fiberglass, steel and aluminum.
